Operations reference
A working vocabulary for podcast operators. Twenty-five terms covering the work between recording and publish — release-train workflow, asset coordination, sponsorship operations, attribution measurement, and ops cadence. Curated for the production managers, agency owners, and network ops leads who actually ship the show.
Workflow
Asset SLA
A documented deadline for when each release-pack artifact (transcript, chapters, social posts, etc.) is owed by which team member.
Escalation path
The named sequence of people contacted when an asset blocks past its SLA, with timing thresholds for each step.
Handoff
A scheduled transfer of responsibility for an in-flight episode artifact from one team member to another.
Multi-show pipeline
A unified ops workflow that handles N parallel shows from the same release-pack template and team rotation.
Ops cadence
The regular rhythm of ops-side rituals: stand-ups, release reviews, retro, sponsor-pacing reviews.
Release pack
The full set of artifacts produced per episode (transcript, chapters, show notes, social cuts, etc.) bundled as one release object.
Release train
A fixed-cadence pipeline that moves episodes from edit-done to publish on a predictable schedule across multiple shows.
Show template
A reusable per-show blueprint covering release cadence, asset list, voice fingerprint, team roles, and tool configuration.
Distribution
Backfill
Retroactively producing missing artifacts (transcripts, chapters, social cuts) for previously-published episodes.
Distribution debt
The accumulated set of distribution opportunities (platforms, formats, derivative content) that should ship per episode but don't.
Evergreen
Back-catalog content that maintains relevance over time and continues to attract downloads months or years after publish.
Platform coverage
The percentage of distribution platforms that receive a fully-rendered, native-format release pack per episode.
Revenue
Ad stitching
Dynamically inserting host-read sponsor audio into an episode at fixed insertion points without re-editing the source file.
Audience cuts
Slicing an audience by demographic, geographic, or interest signals to sell higher-CPM targeted ad inventory.
CPM ladder
A tiered CPM rate card where higher-value placements (pre-roll, host-read, niche audience cuts) charge more than lower-value ones.
Dynamic insertion (DAI)
Server-side ad placement that inserts sponsor audio per-request rather than baking it into the published file.
Makegood
Additional impressions a studio owes a sponsor when the original campaign underdelivered on its commitment.
Sponsor pacing
The rate at which a sponsor's contracted impressions are being delivered vs the campaign timeline.
Measurement
Asset completeness
The percentage of planned release-pack artifacts that actually ship with each episode.
Attribution lift
The measurable increase in a sponsor's conversion rate caused by their podcast campaign, vs control.
Promo code
A unique discount code spoken in the host read that ties conversions back to the podcast.
Re-work rate
The percentage of artifacts that need to be re-edited or re-shipped after first delivery to the next stage in the pipeline.
Release variance
The distance, in hours, between scheduled and actual publish time across recent releases.
Vanity URL
A sponsor-specific tracked URL spoken in the host read (e.g., brand.com/podcastname) for attribution.
