Measurement
Release variance
The distance, in hours, between scheduled and actual publish time across recent releases.
The single most useful operational metric. A studio publishing 'weekly on Tuesdays' might actually publish with a ±2-day spread when measured. That spread is release variance. Tightening it is the boring but compounding work of an operations layer. Median release variance trends toward zero as the operation matures; widening variance is the leading indicator of a degrading system.
